Gary Nastu created his technique "TODAY’S TECHNIQUE for TODAY'S ACTOR" .
Gary Nastu developed his unique approach, “TODAY’S TECHNIQUE for TODAY’S ACTOR,” drawing on decades of professional experience and extensive training in the craft of acting. While living and working in Los Angeles, Gary studied under some of the most respected acting instructors in the industry, receiving individualized coaching that shaped his distinctive teaching style.
For over 23 years, Gary has taught his technique and professional acting classes on both coasts. His career spans work as an actor, assistant director, casting associate, and cameraman, with credits in film, television, and theater in Los Angeles and beyond. He is a proud member of both the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).
Gary’s training includes:
UCLA with Don Richardson, author of Acting Without Agony. Richardson became such an influence on Gary’s approach that his book remains required reading for students ages 14 through adult.
Private study with George Shdanoff, to whom Michael Chekhov dedicated his classic work To the Actor.
Work with renowned teachers such as Harry Mastrogeorge, Sal Dano, Estelle Harman, Ari Barak, and Jeff Garrard at the Estelle Harman Actors Workshop in Hollywood.
Gary spent over eight years at the Estelle Harman Actors Workshop as an assistant director and cameraman, gaining hands-on experience in nearly every aspect of television production. He also worked for various production companies on commercials, films, and television projects in Los Angeles.
Since 2002, Gary has been the owner and lead instructor of Next Stop NY! Acting for TV, Film & Stage in Fairfield, Connecticut. His classes include “Today’s Technique for Today’s Actor”—an alternative to the Method—along with Fundamentals of Acting, Scene Study, Camera Technique, Cold Reading and Audition Technique, Improvisation, and Commercial Acting.
From 2004 to 2008, Gary served as Director of the Acting Division at the Performing Arts Center of Connecticut in Trumbull, where he created and built the acting program. He remained on staff from 2010 to 2013, continuing to share his expertise. Gary also offers acting classes in New York City under the banner “Today’s Technique for Today’s Actor.”
Over the years, Gary has trained countless students who have gone on to work in the entertainment industry, signing with top agencies including Abrams Artists, Carson/Adler, F.B.I., Generation TV, Innovative Artists, TalentWorks, Coast to Coast Talent, The House of Representatives, and Avalon Artist Group.
